Just looking at bicycles may be fascinating enough, but what seems to appeal to people most is riding on them. After looking round the museum and resting your feet in Café Velocitas, you can go out for a cycle ride or a walk, or simply relax at an outdoor café on the nearby waterfront. VELORAMA can offer you a variety of activities in the immediate vicinity of the museum. Nijmegen's magnificent waterfront, the Waalkade, offers a splendid view of the River Waal and its many boats and barges. As cars speed across the Waal bridge up to the right, down on the waterfront the atmosphere is thoroughly relaxed. There are plenty of outdoor cafés and restaurants, and the main shopping streets are just a few minutes' walk away. You can reach the city centre by bicycle, but be prepared for a climb! Why not visit the city's historical buildings and then stroll through the shopping area? For those who plan to linger on in the evening, there are theatres, cinemas and dozens of restaurants and bars. The surrounding area is also excellent for cycling. Climbing enthusiasts can go to Ubbergen, Heilig Landstichting and Groesbeek with its famous "seven hills". Those who have less sturdy leg muscles or who simply want to enjoy views of the riverside landscape will find the lovely Ooypolder just five minutes' ride from VELORAMA. The polder is part of a new nature reserve called De Gelderse Poort. The Nijmegen Tourist Office can provide detailed cycling routes, and VELORAMA has a free (but fairly demanding!) cycling route all ready for you. You will soon be able to rent perfectly restored pre-1940 touring bicycles from VELORAMA. For now you can rent a modern bicycle from the local bicycle firm of Ben Mey. The adress Rijksstraatweg 140, 6573 DG te Nijmegen. Telefoonnummer 024-6843542. There is plenty of parking space near VELORAMA! |
