One entire room on the first floor is devoted to the Ordinary (later known colloquially as a "penny-farthing"), with its tiny rear wheel and huge front one. There were even races for these spectacular machines!

On the first floor you will also find rare, beautifully restored bicycles, tricycles and quadricycles which included a vital invention: the chain drive.

Also on display are bicycles such as the "high-wheel safeties", which represented a transitional stage between the Ordinary and the safer modern bicycle.
